Xbox 360: Unlocking its Full Potential

307865_279635362059291_165485226807639_948208_2006806618_nSure. You may be the hard-core gamer. The MW3 addict. The Halo fan. But…did you know that your Xbox does other things beside spinning game discs. In this article, unlock all the features you never knew your Xbox had.

Play your DVD in near-hd

It’s easy. Just pop the DVD into your 360 console. Your Xbox will play the DVD in amazing near-HD quality. The reason is that the 360 was engineered to be a massive DVD decoder, so that Xbox will exquisitely play all the DVD’s code as it were playing a typical game disc for the Xbox. Since the Xbox doesn’t know the difference, it will play your DVD movie in the same quality that it plays game DVDs. For even better quality, watch your DVDs when the Xbox has a HDMI connection to the TV.

Customize your avatar

You may think this a bit girly, no? I mean, if you have MW3 in Xbox Game Library, why on earth will you spend your time customizing your avatar. Yet, this is actually a very fun and manly experience, if you will. Customizing your avatar means you can tweak his default tee to a limited edition Halo Top… or deck him with a ferocious tiger or try getting him an NBA cap!

Here’s my Avatar as an example. (Screenshots taken by Premier Microsoft. Xbox Avatar is a product  of the Microsoft group of companies.)

Rip your music collection

You can rip all your music collection to your console’s hard drive.

Provided that you have 250 Gigs or more of Storage Space, you can save all your favorite tunes to your console, and easily access your favorite music to spice up games or relax in your chair.

Here’s how it works:

Insert a Compact Disc (CD, make sure it is certified CD) into your console’s Disc Tray. In the Dashboard, navigate to >Home>Play Disc. Press A ON THE CONTROLLER.  You will see a music screen where Xbox starts playing music. Navigate to the “Rip CD” option. Press A ON THE CONTROLLER. Xbox will now rip the contents of the CD to the Hard Drive. Make sure that the CD only contains Audio Files, as this is the only thing Xbox can rip.

  1. Great post. There\\\\\\\’s nothing worse than sitting down to play some Xbox 360 only to turn it on and watch the screen go blank. You look down and see the red ring of death on your power button.

You know right then you won\\\\\\\’t be playing again until you fix it. But the good thing is, there are many ways to fix xbox 360 quickly.

  6. Here’s a quick word about Zune players: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)
